Remember the name Cristiano Ronaldo, it may be somewhat longer than David Beckham but it promises to be worshipped with as much fervour by Manchester United fans in the future.
In United's eyes, Beckham the king may be dead in the footballing sense of the word, but the 18-year-old Portuguese £12.24million pound signing from Sporting Lisbon is already the new crowned prince.
Replacing Nicky Butt just after the hour, Ronaldo helped transform United from the lethargic motions of a one man lead to the sparkling reality of a 4-0 victory over their bogey team.
Bolton had won on their last two visits to Old Trafford and were well in the game before a Ronaldo-inspired United upped three gears.
Another of United's summer signings Eric Djemba-Djemba looks another player set to make an impact for the Reds. He replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after 67 minutes and showed that he too will figure prominently for the champions this season.
Yet, before Ronaldo's arrival United had looked at best ordinary and Bolton as usual were making life very hard for Sir Alex Ferguson's team. United had taken a 35th-minute lead courtesy of a glorious 25-yard free kick from Ryan Giggs which went in off the post.
But only a superb reflex save by another United new boy, goalkeeper Tim Howard had denied Kevin Nolan his third goal in consecutive Old Trafford games for Bolton.
When Ronaldo came on he proved the catalyst which set United and Old Trafford alight.
In the 70th minute, he left Nolan for dead in the Bolton box and the Wanderers player pushed him over to concede a penalty.
Up stepped an out of sorts Ruud van Nistelrooy to hammer the resulting spot kick towards the top corner of the net only to see Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen make a magnificent diving save to turn the ball behind for a corner.
Ironically, it was United and not Bolton who drew inspiration from the miss and in the 73rd minute Ronaldo's cross from the left was met by van Nistelrooy at the far post. Jaaskelainen stopped the shot only to see Giggs prodding the rebound in from close range.
Four minutes later, Bolton were incensed as referee Paul Durkin allowed play to continue as Djemba-Djemba pressed forward and Van Nistelrooy, who looked offside, dummied to leave Paul Scholes racing clear to round Jaaskelainen and score with a right-foot shot from eight yards.
With three minutes to go, Roy Keane found Diego Forlan on the left side of the Bolton box and he teed up Van Nistelrooy to score with a blistering right-foot shot from 12 yards.
Bolton substitute Delroy Facey headed against the United bar late on, but it was the name Ronaldo on everyone's lips as the final whistle was blown.
