Fighting broke out and the former England players were jostled and shoved as glasses were smashed at the Walkabout Bar in Liverpool city centre.
McManaman, 33, and Fowler, 30, were uninjured - but one of eight friends who appeared to be in their group was knocked out. An onlooker said: "Everyone was enjoying themselves until the mood turned nasty. "Next minute, it all kicked off and punches were being thrown. It was vicious. "The fight carried on to the street and all the bouncers were involved. It was quite scary."
Neither of the two ex-Liverpool players, who were team-mates at Manchester City last season, were responsible for the incident or threw any punches. Police were not called but a Merseyside Ambulance spokesman said: "A 23-year-old man was found unconscious."
