Joe Royle has emerged as the favourite to fill the managerial vacancy at Ipswich.

Former Everton and Oldham manager Royle has been out of the game since being sacked by Manchester City 17 months ago.

But BBC Sport Online understands Royle is top of the short-list that includes caretaker boss Tony Mowbray, and Frenchman Phillipe Troussier, who coached Japan in the World Cup finals.
