"It was as tough as we were expecting. Wigan were fantastic," The United boss told Sky Sports.
"They were the best team to come to Old Trafford this season.
"We showed good character and it was an important 1-0 victory.
"These big games take a lot out of you mentally so it does take its toll.
"We tried to freshen it up a bit but it shows our character, especially in the last 30 minutes because for Wigan it was a brilliant performance from them."
"Now we need to kick on. This is the time where we are in the run-in.
"We have to go to Bolton on Saturday and that's a tough game."
