Why Paul Pogba Missed Manchester United's Trip to Arsenal

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed Paul Pogba is "injured" and at risk of missing a number of Manchester United games over the next few weeks, following his failure to travel with the squad to Wednesday's fixture with Arsenal.

The Norwegian hinted in the days before the game that Pogba was ready to feature again having missed the recent win at Burnley, but he is now set for another spell on the sidelines following an ankle problem. Given Solskjaer's comments, it appears Pogba is likely to miss crucial fixtures against the likes of Wolves, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Speaking ahead of the game on Pogba's absence, Solskjaer told MUTV: "He's injured. He's feeling some discomfort in his ankle and he'll be out for a few weeks."

Pogba hasn't started a game for United since the return fixture with Arsenal at Old Trafford on September 30, and while he made his return from the bench in the Boxing Day win over Newcastle, he has now missed the following two fixtures - failing to feature in the match day squad on each occasion.

In a fresh and somewhat bizarre twist, Pogba was seen earlier this week coaching in an exhibition match that his brothers Florentin and Matthias featured in in his native France.

The latest development does little to dampen speculation over the player's long-term future at United, given persistent links with Real Madrid, and comes fresh off the back of pointed quotes from Pogba's outspoken agent, Mino Raiola.

He admitted earlier this week that he would never do transfer business with United again and blasted their record of developing players.

Speaking to La Republicca (via the Daily Mail), Raiola said: "Pogba's problem is Manchester United. It's a club out of touch with reality and without a sporting project.

"I wouldn't take anyone there, they would even ruin [Diego] Maradona, Pelé and [Paolo] Maldini. Paul needs a club and a squad, one like Juventus was before."
