"When I knew Sir Alex Ferguson was interested in me it was a great shock," Menez told Sky Sports. "It was something great. I have visited the facilities and I was in the stands for the match against Everton. But finally I chose to stay with Sochaux's academy because they had shown such faith in me. I didn't want to leave as a thief - that's all."

Menez, 17, scored a hat-trick for Sochaux this weekend.
