WHO STANDS TO GAIN FROM RIO MEETINGS?

Oliver Holt’s opinion on Peter Kenyon and the recent meetings with the WGT:

‘I don't like the idea he tried to steal away the England manager. Twice. I don't like his habit of getting caught with his trousers down talking to top players from other clubs.Advertiseme I don't like his economy with the truth and, even if this is desperately contradictory, I despair of his inability to get his story straight when he has something to hide.

‘You won't be surprised to learn I have never been a fan of Peter Kenyon. There seem to be fewer and fewer of them around. But…as more and more details emerge, I think he was set up over his "chance" meeting with Rio Ferdinand in two London eateries 10 days ago.

‘Put it this way. News of the Night of the Two Dinners hasn't exactly harmed Ferdinand's delicate contract negotiations with Manchester United. There's a new urgency to them now and suddenly Ferdinand's agent, Pini Zahavi, feels empowered enough to start shouting the odds about how big a wage rise his client should be awarded.

‘If it's an award for sheer bloody brass neck and rank ingratitude we're seeking to bestow this week, that should go to Ferdinand. Not Kenyon.’
