The Telegraph:
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former Manchester United striker, is planning to knock down a 50-year-old cottage and replace it with a multi-million pound environmentally-friendly mansion.
Whilst many footballers are content to settle in mock-Tudor monstrosities, Solskjaer intends his new family home to boast the latest in green building technology.
His design incorporates solar panels, locally-sourced sustainable materials and "ground source heat pumps" to warm the swimming pool.
There will also be "low volume flush systems" in the toilets and heavy insulation throughout, according to plans submitted to Macclesfield Borough Council.
Solskjaer only bought the property in Nether Alderley, Cheshire in August. Neighbours have reacted with caution to his plans.
One neighbour said that he would wait to see the full proposals before making up his mind.
"I have heard he is a nice man and I believe he has a young family so it will lovely to have kids around. I just hope it doesn't spoil the layout of the lane," he said,.
The married father-of-two is currently back on Manchester United's books as a coach.
His proposed new five-bedroom home will be built in a typically Scandinavian mix of slate, render, timber and stone and will feature a games room and a garage with space for three cars, according to the application.
