WE CAN STILL CATCH CHELSEA
"If any club can do it, we can. Obviously Chelsea have had a good start but we hope they will drop some points and we can catch them up.
"The Premier League is our priority this season. A club of this size needs to be winning trophies and we have a good enough squad to be doing that.
"Manchester United is a massive club and the number of trophies we have won down the years is frightening.
"Those victories bring a huge weight of expectation which we have to live up to.
"For all of us at the club now, the aim is to take it further than the players who have been here in the past.
"In 30 years' time, I want lads to be sitting in the canteen drinking their tea looking at posters of me with the Premier League and Champions League trophies.
"I was a bit nervous when I met the gaffer for the first time. Before that, I had only seen him on TV and when Everton were playing against United.
"But he was really friendly and said he would always be there if there were any problems.
"He has made me aware of what he wants from me and what he wants from his team.
"If you look at his history, there is no better manager to work for and, like me, he wants to win every trophy he can.”
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klinsmann warns fans not to expect too much:
"Wayne Rooney is, undoubtedly, one of the most talented young players in the world today.
"He has shown that he can perform exceptionally well on football's major stages as evidenced in Portugal at Euro 2004 and in many of his performances in the UEFA Champions League.
"Rooney is that rare player who appears to play by intuition and is able to change the course of a game with powerful runs, strong shooting and incisive passing.
"I hope that fans and the media do not burden him with the expectations of an entire country.
"He is surrounded by other established and accomplished players, who can and will, contribute to the team's performance.”
