He amazingly denied claims that officers had been 'heavy-handed' in using batons against the mainly peaceful protesters. Although he did admit to some "communication problems" with the club, saying police had learned of the visit only at 7pm and not earlier as most people had presumed.
"As far as I am concerned at the moment, while we are investigating the behaviour of officers, I am happy that our officers acted properly.
"In our view, this was a violent demonstration that had the potential to become even more violent.
"As the vehicles started to move off, that is when the crowd started to attack the vehicles with bricks and bottles.
"We believe officers used the batons quite lawfully and quite justifiably."
He also urged fans to plan any future 'peaceful' protests with officers to avoid violence.
More surprisingly there have been no complaints made to the authorities from Reds about the police’s actions on Wednesday night.
