‘David Beckham left the Old Trafford pitch with an ice-pack on his calf - but the injury is nowhere near as bad as the mental scars Manchester United inflicted on a shell-shocked Everton this evening.

The England captain insists the knock he took late on in the 3-0 win over the Toffeemen is "not serious" and should not prevent him linking up with Sven-Goran Eriksson's squad for the European Championship double-header with Slovakia and Macedonia later this week.

For Everton, the damage will take longer to repair after they saw their chances of grabbing a point wrecked by a late United blitz which saw the home side snatch three goals in as many minutes courtesy of a Paul Scholes double either side of Ruud van Nistelrooy's penalty.’
