VIEW FROM GIGG LANE

‘FC United fans were in seventh heaven last night as the rebel reds maintained their 100 per cent record at the top of the Moore and Co Solicitors League second division with a 7-1 rout of Eccleshall at a noisy Gigg Lane

‘And club bosses were equally delighted with the attendance of 1,978, which given the circumstances, emphasised the FC United phenomenon is set to be far more than a brief protest against Malcolm Glazer's Old Trafford takeover.

‘Mark Rawlinson gave FC United a dream start by tapping in Josh Mitten's cross after just six minutes and they made it 2-0 on the half-hour when Steve Torpey fired in a free-kick from the edge of the box.

‘Rob Nugent headed their third goal shortly before the break and, though they did allow Eccleshall to pull one back within moments of the restart, that only served to prompt a devastating response from Karl Marginson's side.

‘FC United quickly made it 6-1 with three goals in less than 10 minutes, two goals coming from substitute Adie Orr with Rawlinson's second of the night sandwiched between. Orr's fellow substitute Ryan Gilligan added their seventh goal with time rapidly running out.

‘And, with FC United having now scored 15 times in just three league games, none of their legion of supporters could possibly complain they're not getting value for money!’
