According to the United star, he and his team mates paid too much attention to what City were doing and it cost them valuable points as they were not fully focused on their own matters.
United beat fierce rivals Liverpool on Sunday which maintained a seven point lead at the top of the table over Manchester City in second place.
Evra told reporters: “The difference between last year and this year is that we have been more focused on Manchester United.
“I remember last season some players and a lot of people at the club were talking about who City were going to play in the next game.
“They were talking about who City were going to do this or that against – I’m honest about that.
“But this year we are just focusing on ourselves because we know if we play well, we are Manchester United and we have to show that every time in every game.
“We don’t want what happened last year to happen again so we are just focused on winning the league.”
