UNITED PLAYERS TO REVEAL WAGES

Premier League boss Richard Scudamore has had an idea that means we may soon know how much money every player earns.

"A public register would be extremely interesting. Player contracts are confidential but I would be in favour of full public transparency in player wages and bonuses. It would have a deflationary effect on wages.

"When players are told stories of what other players are earning, it adds to the inflationary pressure."

He also said City players could have wage reductions next year

"Sanity has to prevail. The only sensible way to deal with relegation is to have contingent contracts.

"I know of clubs who say to players: 'Here is your basic wage and if we retain Premiership status then it is X and if we do not, then it is Y'."
