UNITED INTERESTED IN RONALDO
Manchester United are keeping tabs on Portugal's latest footballing sensation - Cristiano Ronaldo. The Sporting Lisbon hot-shot has played a mere handful of games, but is already accruing a reputation which could eclipse highly-rated team-mate Ricardo Quaresma and former colleague Hugu Viana - now with Newcastle United.
The young striker - full name Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro - struck twice in Monday's 3-0 win over Moreirense, with representatives from United and Internazionale both present. Sir Alex Ferguson's spies were also at Sporting`s midweek Uefa Cup encounter with Partizan Belgrade, after which it is being reported that United requested a meeting with the Portuguese in order to officially register their interest in the player.

Leading agent, Pinhas Zahavi, said
"Carlos Queiroz [United's Portuguese assistant manager] knows a lot about him.
"but at the moment to even think about a move for him is not right - a transfer for this player is a long, long way away."
