Wigan have spent £100,000 to have the playing surface re-laid at the DW Stadium and boss Roberto Martinez is convinced that taking this action will yeild his team more points from the remaining home games.
'I know it will suit United as well, but it is important for us that we have a good pitch to play on,' said the Wigan boss.
Martinez said: "We didn't want to use it as an excuse but I am delighted we have done everything in our hands to solve the problem and make sure we have a perfect pitch for Saturday.
"I'm extremely proud of that.
"From now until the end of the season every point is going to be valuable and it is important we do everything we can to help our players.
"Five games is competing for 15 points - a huge amount of points."
