It emerged on Saturday that United had agreed a fee with Blind's current employers Ajax and with him having subsequently been pictured in Manchester, it is expected the versatile Holland international's move will go through on deadline day.
That would be a fifth summer signing for the Red Devils but they have also been linked with a host of other players and, particularly after the underwhelming start United have made to the new season, their supporters will no doubt be eager to see further recruiting done.
More departures certainly appear likely following midfielder Shinji Kagawa's exit from Old Trafford on Sunday to return to his previous side Borussia Dortmund on a four-year deal.
Reports have suggested United striker Javier Hernandez is close to making a one-year loan move to Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, midfielder Tom Cleverley continues to attract interest from Aston Villa, although their boss Paul Lambert declared on Sunday that ''nothing is moving forward'' on that front.
Lambert did say that another midfielder, Karim El Ahmadi, was near to securing a move back to his former club Feyenoord from Villa.
He was speaking after his side's 2-1 home win over Hull, whose boss Steve Bruce is expecting Tigers forward George Boyd to sign for Burnley after allowing him to hold talks with the Clarets.
QPR look set for a busy conclusion to the window, with midfielder Lassana Diarra near to finalising his switch from Lokomotiv Moscow having completed a medical.
Tottenham midfield pair Sandro and Aaron Lennon are being linked with the R's as well
QPR's former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp managed both at White Hart Lane, and neither were part of the Tottenham matchday squad for Sunday's clash with Liverpool.
Redknapp is also looking at strikers - Ajax's Kolbeinn Sigthorsson has been heavily touted - to replace Loic Remy, whose switch from QPR to Chelsea was announced on Sunday around the same time as fellow frontman Fernando Torres' two-year loan move from Stamford Bridge to AC Milan.
It is unclear whether there was an enquiry from Arsenal about Remy just before he joined Chelsea, and it remains to be seen whether the Gunners, without the injured Olivier Giroud until the new year, look to bolster their attack with a late signing.
Elsewhere, Southampton have reportedly bid for Salzburg midfielder Sadio Mane, and there is talk of Sunderland closing in on the loan signing of Inter Milan winger Ricky Alvarez.
