UNITED DO DEAL WITH THE NAZI PARTY

Manchester United Plc is applying to build a new casino complex, including a five-star hotel, restaurants and a health club, near to its Old Trafford stadium.

The world's richest soccer club, awaiting a formal bid approach from U.S. tycoon Malcolm Glazer, said it is making its bid in partnership with hotel and gaming company Las Vegas Sands Corp but its plans depend on receiving a casino licence.

The club has the support of its local Trafford Council and together with its U.S. partner has made an initial bid for a licence for a regional-scale casino in the Trafford area.

"The project has the potential to create up to 2,000 new jobs," said Rodney Brody, UK representative for Las Vegas Sands.

Andy Anson’s comments on the proposed tie-up:

“Any plans will of course consider the social issues associated with
gambling...”

…but not the social issues of dreadful working conditions and oppression by
employers, eh?

United's new 'job-creating' partner being discussed in Parliament last November:

Mr. Andrew Dismore (Hendon) (Lab):

“I believe that companies with bad employment records should not be allowed to operate in the United Kingdom. An example is the Las Vegas Sands casino, whose chief executive is a man called Sheldon Adelson.

"I have seen a detailed briefing on his activities, provided by Unite Here's research department. It is pretty horrific. He has been described by the Las Vegas Review-Journal as

‘perhaps the most vilified man in Nevada.’

“He has been involved in repeated conflicts with governmental and regulatory agencies. Earlier this year the Nevada Gaming Commission imposed a $1m on the Venetian casino, which he owns, for rigging contests and violating other Nevada gaming regulations.

"He is in ongoing litigation with the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission over issues dating back to 1999. He is an extremely litigious individual. I suspect that the Government's triple-lock proposals would lead to a number of legal challenges and judicial reviews should he be allowed into the UK.
“Mr. Adelson has come under fire over working conditions, for failing to remit proper back pay, and for attempting to have workers and their supporters arrested for protesting. He subcontracts a substantial number of jobs, with substandard wages and benefits.

"He uses his wealth to try to oust politicians who cross him-so I am probably on his hit list now, as some other Members may also be after tonight. He has repeatedly been characterised as difficult to work with, and

‘terrorizing those who get in his way.’

“That is the sort of person whom we could end up dealing with. We must ensure that such operators have no place in the UK's gaming industry.”

United responded to this information:

“In terms of regulation and employment rights, the Club is confident that the UK regulatory authorities (including the upcoming Gambling Commission) have sufficient statutory power to enforce the relevant legislation. And the Club would not involve itself with a project that operated outside the law.”

Which, roughly, means we would deal with Adolf Hitler - as long as he pays his national insurance stamps. Pah!
