Lyon have withdrawn from the race to sign Tyrell Malacia, leaving Manchester United a clear run to sign the Dutch left back after agreeing a fee with Lyon.
United moved for the Feyenoord star earlier this week - despite Lyon being at an advanced stage in their negotiations to sign him - and have offered a fee of €15m plus add-ons to secure the deal.
Lyon had previously been offering €12m plus add-ons to take the deal to a €15m total, but United made their move after coming to a deal in principle with Barcelona to sign Frenkie de Jong for a guaranteed initial fee of €65m.
United had been waiting to find out how much they would be committing to the deal for De Jong before moving on other targets, and the relatively low guaranteed sum for the midfielder has allowed them to spend another part of their budget quickly.
Lyon made a late move to improve their offer for Malacia but it's understood he has indicated he would like to join United.

Personal terms have not yet been thrashed out for Malacia, though they are not expected to be an issue. Malacia and De Jong are represented by the same agency and the De Jong deal is also nearing completion.
It's expected that United will complete transfers for the Netherlands international pairing in the coming days, while the club are also waiting on an answer from Christian Eriksen, who is out of contract at Brentford and has been offered a deal by United.
Ajax pair Antony and Lisandro Martinez are also wanted by United, and it's expected the club's attention will turn to deals for them next.
