With just seconds left on the clock Beckham cleared the ball before a late lunge from Tristan left Beckham rolling around on the floor in agony. The United number seven, who scored a wonderful goal earlier in the match was strechered from the field with his hands over his face, seemingly in tears.
Initially there were fears that the ankle injury would keep Beckham out of the World Cup but Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that it is only a minor injury and there is a chance that he could return to the side as early as next week.
Tristan told the Mirror newspaper: "I'm very sorry about what happened.
"It all happened very quickly. I'm delighted to hear David is not badly hurt - I must admit I thought it would be a lot worse. I have been worried about him all day.
"It really was just my enthusiasm - a moment when I lost my head.
"I repeat, I am very, very sorry and I will say sorry to David when I see him again.
"It is something I am not proud of it at all. Now I want to forget all about it."
