‘Soccer star Sol Campbell’s brother kicked a man senseless and broke his jaw for repeating rumours about the player being gay, a court heard yesterday. John Campbell, 34, is said to have kicked Mark Golstein in the head and carried on after he passed out.
‘He only stopped when others held him back, it was claimed. The attack happened during a football training session at Clapton, East London. Mr Golstein, 26, had stud marks on his head and broken teeth
‘The pair were studying sports science at the University of East London. Mr Golstein said he brought up rumours about England defender Sol’s sexuality in a class discussion on factors that could hold sports stars back.
‘He denied having any hostile feelings towards the player or his elder brother. But he added: “I don’t hide the fact I’m a Spurs fan and he went to Arsenal, which I didn’t like much.”
‘Campbell, of Manor Park, East London, claims Mr Golstein hit him first. He denies GBH with intent. The trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court continues.
