"Manchester United have to deliver. Any season without a trophy is a disappointing one for us. I have been here for 10 seasons now and the last three we have been trailing behind Arsenal and Chelsea.

"But the manager is building a good, young team. There are so many interesting and exciting players coming through I really feel we are coming back again.

"If they fulfil their potential, Wayne and Cristiano will be among the best players in the world and this is the stage for them to perform."

Charlton:

"The players at United will not give up until it is certain they cannot be champions. It is part of the way they have been brought up here and you can see it through the number of times we have scored important goals right at the end of games. But, this time, I really don't think it is possible to catch Chelsea. If it happens, it would be the biggest surprise of my life.

"I really don't think it is possible. However, I know what Alex means. He knows fine well that the team will give its best until we know for certain that we are not champions. The expectation now is that you have to have a trophy every season.

"Since Alex came here, it's almost been non-stop success. That is the norm at this club and it's a standard that you cannot fall below. If you do, you've got the answer for it. But the players will always do their best because they are that type of player, they have been brought up to be like that."

Scholes:

"My aim now is for next season. It has been four months now so I'm not sure it will be completely normal but I should be OK to start playing again. I don't really know why it happened. Apparently, it is something quite rare in people my age.

"I was a bit worried but it has been more frustrating than anything else because, while as a footballer, you expect to pull muscles, this was something completely different. Unfortunately, it has happened to me and I just have to get on with it.

"I didn't ever think I had played my last game or anything like that. I was just determined to get it right and the sooner I could get back the better. As long as I'm ready for next season, I will be happy."
