Tite backs Fred to 'steal the scene' for Brazil

Brazil manager Tite has suggested that Manchester United midfielder Fred can 'steal the scene' as Neymar's replacement.

The Selecao will be without their talisman for the remainder of the group stage after picking up an ankle injury in their 2-0 win over Serbia to kick off their World Cup campaign last week.

In Neymar's place, Brazil are expected to move Lucas Paqueta into the number ten role, with Fred coming in to partner Manchester United teammate Casemiro deeper in midfield.

Speaking ahead of their clash with Switzerland, Tite has backed Fred to step up as he so often does for his country.

"Sometimes we see it in the movies where someone who isn’t the star steals the scene," Tite cryptically said.

Fred has played 29 times for the Selecao, featuring at four major tournaments. However, he is yet to taste international glory with Brazil.

Brazil will advance to the knockout stages of the World Cup with a win against Switzerland on Monday afternoon. They drew 1-1 with the Swiss in their opening game of the 2018 tournament, with Philippe Coutinho grabbing their goal that day.
