TITBITS AND TITTLE TATTLE

War - what is it good for? In Times interview, Fergie says ''I have told [good friend] Ally Campbell that I'm absolutely against this war....he told me to calm down''

Celtic boss, Martin O'Neill has just supposedly bought nice big house within 20miles of both Anfield and O.T. Convenient too for his family - sister and brother both in Gtr Manc area...

SFX have cut exclusive deal for Becks columns with The Sun...the ones who covered Fergie in sh*t this week. At least he and Fergie are both on the same NewsCorp side now, what with SAF's cozy matiness with Times/SunTimes/McIllvaney.

Though not such welcome news for the United fans who battled Murdoch and the hostile Sun to save club from takeover in 1999 perhaps....

A snout of ours who works at News International in Scotland keeps telling us that United have optioned Jermain Defoe, who'll leave Worst Ham if they go down. He and Becks are now bosom buddies again after the Hammer resumed his relationship with Beck's sister.

Larry White isn't training with the first team squad anymore. and when did he last turn out for reserves? erm, not once in the 3mths since he was dropped. just what is he doing for his £70k per week???

Sunday People gossip column last week, that Crick's 'the boss' paperback will have whole new chapter on Rio-to-United deal....and that Telegraph/Express confirm this week that auditors now looking at ALL Leeds deals since 2000.

One trusts that Fergie's close pal, the mysterious Mr Zehavi, has his books nice n tidy too

Does anyone know why United hotshot reserve Keiron Richardson has STILL not been offered proper professional terms? Nothing to do with his supposed Ince-like 'bigtime charlie' attitude one trusts? Or the rumour that his agent was blabbing to certain tabloid men re the 'truth' of the flying boot affair midweek?

David James in his Times column: ''It's damaging when secrets leak out of dress room..I would like to get my hands on whoever's been gossiping''

So it'll be a completely different David James who blabbed to the press after the england match last week about the feeling of some England players that certain stars had not given their all/been focussing on club not country

[Gary Neville, you will recall, was very cross at the imputation]

A BBC document revealed last week that 80% of Iraqis support United, and Becks is their top star

Apparently they're to ask the UN to inspect Ferguson for more weapons of mass destruction...

''MUFinance'' announced a new competition this week - MUbrand credit card holders can apply to win 'a day's training with united'

I called to see if they could also offer accident insurance, injury at work deals etc (teehee with a view to being protected from fergie's flying boots)

''No problem sir!'' said the chap on the line, not seeing the angle....

easy open goal, innit?

MUFinance 0800 783 3131

Sir Bobby Robson must've been delighted to open the papers on his b'day last week and see that very day's results from Paul Stretford's Proactive - shares collapsing, grimness allround.

Cos Sir Bobby sold all his shares in the firm several weeks ago when they were still worth summat, after going loco with BBC reporters inquiring as to whether bosses should be holding shares in agents. so Sir Bobby's saved a packet - unlike Keegan, Souness et al who are thus duly punished for continuing with this blatant conflict of interests.

BTW: how long before someone looks at the several deals ''dodgy'' Willie Mckay's done at City for Keegan?

The fan who threw back Ruud Van Nistelrooy's shirt last week - saving him a booking - has got it back as a reward.

Pete Law caught the when Ruud hurled it into the crowd whilst celebrating his goal against Juve then saw the ref reach for a card.

RVN met him with the shirt the next day. Pete, 41, of Manchester, said: "I'm the luckiest fan alive."

Martin Edwards has been urged by 'supportive fans' to pen a tell-all book when he steps down in June and has told one that he will ''consider the idea nearer the time". That's one tome Fergie wont look forward to, especially if he sheds light on the infamous rumour regarding how he supposedly helped Fergie escape retribution from angry bookies without ever getting payback...........
