For those asking ‘Tony who?’ I’ll try to explain; The Manchester Evening News has a free-sheet sister, which is distributed around South Manchester called the Manchester Metro News in which Mr Lanigan has a regular column. This avowed Everton fan and chief ABU uses his column to slag of United at every opportunity, this week his blitherings contain the following gem:
‘It is disappointing that Manchester United have even considered an appeal on behalf of their skipper Roy Keane. The whole of football accepts that the volatile Irishman went much too far in his lucrative autobiography over the Alfie Haaland affair and an FA punishment of less than two week’s wages and five-match ban seem a small price to pay for his indiscretions. But then, United have always considered themselves unaccountable.’
We will leave you to debate the merits of this gobshite-knownowt’s comments but if the MEN is going to shove unsolicited newspapers through Mancunian doors every week you would think that they would try and employ a journalist who at least had some allegiance to the area which the paper attempts to serve.
