TIM GETS NERVOUS BEFORE GAMES

Tim Howard in the Mirror:

"I really do feel pressure but I think the goalkeeper in me
tells me just to try to make it look good. But it's all a
facade. There have been times when I've been so nervous but
I just try not to let it show. There have been games this
season where I've felt really anxious and literally been
shaking beforehand. Arsenal was one, the two pre-season
games in America went that way, and Rangers at Ibrox was
really intense.

"I still get nervous but I'm starting to settle into a
groove. But I still get anxious, as I think every player
does. United could have bought any goalkeeper in the world
and they bought me. It just doesn't make sense.

"You could analyse it all you want but in the end it just
doesn't make sense. I'd go crazy if I tried to figure out
how I got here or why I got here because to me it's totally
unbelievable. At United, players like Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs
and Ruud van Nistelrooy are the heroes. The goalkeeper is
never going to be the hero, nor should he be. My job is just
to be consistent and help the side win the games.

"I challenged myself after the few games before we played
City. I had been through periods like that before, in terms
of my form, but not since I'd been at United. You still have
to make saves, even if you're not feeling up to par. I had
to go back to basics and be aggressive once more."
