From today's Sunday Mirror:

Rio Ferdinand told a group of Manchester United fans that his contract stand-off with the club had nothing to do with money.

The meeting, outside Ferdinand's mansion in the millionaires' village of Alderley Edge, was eventually interrupted by police who had been alerted by the £30million man's worried neighbours.

The fans sent a tape of the meeting to Sunday Mirror Sport accompanied by photographs. Ferdinand is heard telling them: "I want to stay, I've always said I want to stay.

"When I was at Leeds I said I wanted to stay at Leeds. Then straight away when I didn't want to stay there I came out and said I didn't want to stay there.

"If I didn't want to stay at United I'd go up to the manager and say I don't want to stay there."

When asked if the deadlock was about money, Ferdinand replied: "There's other factors."

Ferdinand agreed that he'd had "a touch" of good fortune being paid while suspended - but insisted that he is not Chelsea-bound. He told the supporters: "What I'm saying to you is that if you were off work and they did pay you, would you give it them back? I had a touch."

And he added: "Don't believe the papers. I'm not going to be going in there [to Chelsea]. You think I'm going to? I'm from Peckham."
