THE LONG ROAD AHEAD

Roy Carroll has spelt out his ambitions to MUTV.

"My goal is to become number one at Manchester United," Roy told MUTV. "I know I have time on my side but I want to get there sooner rather than later. It's the biggest challenge I have in front of me."

And is being at United different from being at Wigan?

"The training facilities weren't fantastic at Wigan," Roy said. "While United have everything you could possibly need. You get dietary advice here and the more intensive coaching for the goalkeepers obviously helps as well.

"Then there are all the world-class players you can learn from, in particular Fabien, whose footwork is excellent," added the United keeper.
Life at United.

"I came to United to win trophies. The manager has made it quite clear he wants to win everything this season and if we keep performing the way we have been recently, we have a chance of doing it," he said.

He won't be too happy to find out that Fabien Barthez should be fit for the Derby.

"I'm working hard to make the match on Sunday," he told the club's website.

"I've only had two days treatment on it so it is too early to say but it seems to be going well."

"It would be dangerous to push myself too quickly too soon.

"Having said that, we are going all out to be ready for Manchester City."
