From MEN:

'Around 1,500 fans braved the weather to watch the game on the giant screen in Exchange Square, while thousands of others packed into pubs and bars across the city centre to cheer on their heroes.

Jason Makin, 32, from Hyde, who watched Exchange Square, said: "I'm just absolutely gutted. England can never win on penalties. It was heartbreaking and cruel. It's the same thing at every tournament. How much longer do we have to suffer? That said, we would have won the game but for one of the worst refereeing performances I have ever seen. How he could disallow Sol Campbell's goal beggared belief."

Matthew Finlay, 24, from Fallowfield, "We deserve a lot more than to be cheated like that."

James Simms, 29, from Crumpsall, said: "The referee was shambolic and but for him we wouldn't have had to endure the pain of another penalty shoot-out."

Unfair

John Werth, 33, from Rochdale, said: "It's so unfair, we should be through and everyone who watched the game knows that, except for the referee, of course."

Yeah, yeah.
