John Terry is always ready to give the press the quotes they crave by talking up Chelsea's title prospects; having spurned the opportunity of signing for Ferguson as a youth could it be that Terry sees the title as justifying his decision to stay at Chelsea instead of moving to Manchester?.
From The Guardian:
As a man known for his admiration of teenagers, Chelsea coach Graham Rix had this to say about the young John Terry:
'I remember one match, he injured himself and carried on playing with a pulled hamstring for 20 minutes. That hurts like hell, but he's hard as nails. We took him on and he shot up over the next two years. Everybody was chasing him then, all the clubs, including Manchester United, but thankfully he was happy where he was.'
Legend has it that Terry once shared a car with David Beckham from Essex up to Old Trafford and Sir Alex Ferguson even invited him for a pre-match meal and sat him next to his hero, Paul Ince. To no avail, though. 'It was a tough decision,' says Terry. 'Manchester United were my club and my dad's. We were mad-keen fans and it upset my dad, but he could see Chelsea were going places.'
