Stars poised to come out for United

Defender Jones was expected to have met with United's medical staff on Tuesday as the club looked to determine the extent of the injury he sustained on duty with England.

The 22-year-old limped off in the 77th minute of Monday's 2-0 Euro 2016 qualifying victory in Switzerland due to what appeared to be a hamstring problem.

While Jones could now be facing a spell on the sidelines, it seems stints out of action are coming to an end for several of his United team-mates.

One of those is his fellow England defender Luke Shaw, who it is understood is now fit and ready for selection ahead of the contest at Old Trafford this weekend.

Left-back Shaw has so far been unable to make a competitive debut for his new side following a summer switch from Southampton, having suffered a hamstring injury of his own in August.

Midfielder Ander Herrera, also recruited over the summer, is hopeful of making his return against QPR.

The Spanish midfielder has been restricted to just one competitive United run-out to date because of an ankle complaint, but wrote on Twitter on Monday: ''Training hard and looking forward to this next game at Old Trafford!''

And there was further positive United fitness news on Tuesday, with defender Rafael writing on his Instagram account: ''Back in training ready to help

Let's go.''

The Brazil international has not featured yet this term due to a groin injury sustained in pre-season.

Additionally, there could be United bows on Sunday for another defender in Marcos Rojo, with the necessary paperwork for him to do so now signed off, plus the versatile Daley Blind and striker Radamel Falcao, the two transfer deadline-day recruits.

There could also be a home debut for Angel di Maria, the winger the club broke the British transfer record for last month, in a fixture United hope will bring their first win of what has so far been a disappointing campaign under new boss Louis van Gaal.

Striker Robin van Persie is certainly feeling optimistic about what lies ahead.

Speaking in the Austrian Alps, where he has been training with Holland, 31-year-old Van Persie - who has also expressed his desire to play at the 2018 World Cup and keep his career going through to the age of 40 - said: ''I can't wait to go and train and play with the world class players we have signed - wow!"

Van Persie added on United's website: ''That feeling, that we are going to perform well, has only got stronger after the buying of players over the last weeks

I find it very exciting, the arrival of all those new players."

United winger Ashley Young is also convinced the future is bright for the club.

''I definitely think things are going to turn for us and I would say to the fans there is nothing to worry about, we're going to come good,'' Young told Inside United magazine.

''It's just like the manager has said, just believe in the philosophy and how we're playing and keep believing that we're going to turn this round because we do.''

Sir Bobby Charlton is another who is sure the Red Devils will soon be rising again.

United's all-time leading goalscorer, said according to United's website: "It seems strange that Manchester United are not involved in European football for a season.

"It's crazy, but maybe it can make things easier for us.

"We have started with some new players

We have not been playing well but we will play well.

"I think that it's going to be a great adventure of how we pull ourselves back around and get back to the way it used to be.

"He (Van Gaal) has given me and most of us fans some good news (with the new signings) and it is good news.

"We won't struggle, definitely, we won't struggle any more."
