Redknapp is wary of his key players picking up injuries in the match and realises that, despite reaching the Carling Cup in dramatic fashion against Burnley on Wednesday night, his side are still in a scrap to get out of the Premier League relegation zone.
"The game against United really is so secondary to me now," Redknapp told Sky Sports.
"If Alex is listening, I'm really going to send a real mish-mash team up there.
"I hope it doesn't upset the supporters, but we played extra-time [at Burnley] and we're out on our feet a little bit.
"The lads who didn't play will play at Old Trafford; I'm going to rest the key players who played against Burnley because I can't afford to lose any more to injuries.
"We're in a relegation battle and need to get a team together to play against Stoke on Tuesday."
