Dennis Wise has launched a High Court action against Leicester to reclaim more than £2.3million in lost earnings following his sacking in August.
Wise, now at Millwall, was shown the door by the Foxes after an altercation with team-mate Callum Davidson on a pre-season tour of Finland.
Wise challenged his dismissal but a four-man tribunal panel ruled last month that Leicester were within their rights to sack the former England star.
This latest development comes at the worst possible time for Leicester, with the club around £30m in debt.
Current Leicester players yesterday agreed to defer 20 per cent of their weekly earnings to try to ease the club's plight following their relegation from the Premiership in May. But Wise's move adds to their problems considerably.
Leicester supporters clubchairman Cliff Ginetta said: "It's one bad story after another. Things are stacking up against us and everything is going wrong off the pitch.
"The club are pushing for promotion, it looks like we're putting things right - then this bombshell comes.
"The team have really gelled and got behind the manager. We're hoping to get promotion and put all the financial problems behind us but it would appear someone up there is not smiling on us."
Ginetta, speaking on Sky Sports News, believes the club will fight their corner despite their problems.
He added: "I think Leicester will win the day. They will fight the case very strongly. One or two of the directors may fight it with their own money."
