Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand took his family on a £400 caravan break in North Wales, snubbing more expensive holidays to St Tropez, New York or Barbados.
The England international star took his family to Presthaven Sands, according to Haven Holidays who hosted the family at the site in Prestatyn.
He did, however, choose a top-of-the-range ''Prestige'' caravan - at £400 for the weekend.
It is not clear if the player, who was injured at the time and therefore free from playing at the weekend, actually stayed overnight in the caravan.
''He had a very lovely time, he was mobbed by young lads on the park but was quite affable about it all signing autographs then tried out the go-kart track,'' a Haven spokeswoman said.
''Perhaps he recognised that with two young children, people like to get a value for money family holiday and perhaps children are unimpressed by five star hotels and would rather have go-karting and football and dancing.
''Here you can have five star accommodation within the comfort of your own 'home'."
She added: ''Our holidays are also excellent value for money."
