From his Sunday Pink column:
If Rio Ferdinand still has two years left on his contract, why is he trying to negotiate a new one?
Players nowadays amaze me. If you have signed a five-year deal, you know it will last five years.
Unless it is stated in the contract that it will be reviewed after a certain period of time, then it should be a case of: `That's the deal, we will talk again when the contract is close to ending!'
But I'm sure that there will be more stories about the defender possibly leaving Old Trafford between now and when his new deal is finally sorted out.
What Rio has to remember is the loyalty the club showed him during his ban for failing to attend a drugs test. Instead of trying to get more money out of United, he should be happy that they stuck by him.
The People, meanwhile, say that Rio wants £150K per week to re-sign.
