"It was an opportune time to have a break at the end of the World Cup and I have had time to recuperate fully," Veron told MUTV.
"I have had a really good pre-season and have got some good physical work done and putting the slight lack of form I had last season behind me, this is a time to start afresh and put in consistent good performances all year."
Veron says he is ready for the competition for midfield places:
"The manager is going to make some tough decisions, you have got five or six players there who have all got time with Manchester United and have had long and distinguished careers here. Each individual, and the club as a whole, can only benefit from this because there is a lot of competition for places. That inspires you to perform to the very best of your ability."
