"At 19, physically he's a man. What we've got to try and do is to bring maturity to the boy, because maturity will make him the complete player.
"I think what we've seen is a young boy thrust into being the focal point of the English team. And that was obvious in the reaction of the Spanish players. Every time he went into a challenge they surrounded the referee, they surrounded Wayne Rooney. It was obvious they wanted him out of the road.
"The case with Rooney is that he's a sensible boy, no problem. And he's in the right dressing room, no doubt about that. The Nevilles, the Scholes - he loves Scholesey. Scholes more than anyone is why we got him to the club."
