The United midfielder, who has been sidelined since October with a knee injury, could be fit to return for the fourth round tie next Sunday.
"We are waiting for clearance and we think next Thursday the medical staff will give clearance for Paul Scholes to be ready to start full training and playing. He can play immediately," assistant manager Carlos Queiroz has said.
"The FA Cup is a possibility. We hope after clearance next Thursday that he can at least be on the bench."
The tie take's place at Old Trafford on Sunday, 27th January with a 2pm kick-off time and is to be screened live on BBC TV.
