SCHOLES ROUND UP

The Paul Scholes side of things:

Frank Lampard said: "To have broken his duck will be great for his confidence, although some of his general performances have been very good and he is a very important player for us. But I am sure it would have preyed on his mind a little bit. No one likes to be a natural scorer like Paul and then go so long without getting a goal. It is hard and to end that run would have been great for him.

"It gives you an extra boost of confidence at the best of times to score goals and that will have been a weight off his shoulders.

"Scholesy always contributes and is always a big threat to teams and - when he is also scoring like on Monday and will do again in the future - then a lot of teams are fearful of him.''

St Nick of Gorton never doubted Scholes's determination.

"He only has one thing in his mind when he is near goal and that is getting a shot in. It doesn't matter who is around him. He has always been like that since he was a young kid and he seems to be able to hit the target and hit it with power which is an added bonus. Scholesy is one of those players who is very difficult to replace because he is a player who seems to have a lot of time on the ball."

"He comes off the forwards very well and can pass the ball through for a goal chance and there are not a lot of people in the game who can do that. They are few and far between and I think Scholesy is one of the best in the business."

Finally captain Golden Bollocks said: "Everyone has been talking about his goals record but Paul has always had this knack of producing in the big games and he's done it again. He does more than score goals. He plays balls through to other people and sets them up, although to get one himself was of great relief to him."
