SCANDALOUS FERDINAND RUMOUR DENOUNCED

From the Sunday Mirror:

“Sensational slurs that Rio Ferdinand has been having an affair with Sir Alex Ferguson’s daughter-in-law have rocked Old Trafford bosses.

“The allegations - which are false – have been made in letters sent to Sir Alex and the club’s chief executive David Gill. They follow lurid rumours that Rio has been having a fling with Nadine Ferguson, wife of Fergie’s son Darren, who plays for Wrexham.

“It’s believed that the hate campaign against Rio was sparked by his refusal to sign a new £110,000-a-week contract with the club.

“The letters, which have been seen by the Sunday Mirror, were delivered to the homes of Sir Alex and David Gill earlier this month. They claim that the £30m England defender has been having a year-long affair with 26-year-old Nadine.

“They say that Rio first struck up a ‘friendship’ with Nadine during the Soul Weekender festival in Southport, having met her during the hen night of magazine editor Helen Whitley.

“Rio is supposed to have enjoyed a string of ‘secret’ dates with Nadine which was ‘common knowledge’ among the Wrexham wives. They hint that Darren, 32, had even confronted Rio over the alleged affair at the Trafford pub, in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, in January.

“Nadine, who has been married to Darren for two years, admits Rio is a friend but strongly denies having an affair with him. She has said: ‘It’s absolute rubbish. I have never been unfaithful to my husband.’

“Close friend Helen Whitley confirmed the rumours were completely false.

“The detached home that Darren and Nadine share at Goostrey, Crewe, is currently on the market for £750,000. But friends insist that the couple are moving to a new property together.”

RI would like to stress the Sunday Mirror’s point that these scandalous rumours are completely false. After all, they’d have been in the papers if they were true, right?
