ROONEY PUTS THE WORK IN

Quieroz:

"Wayne finished training then stayed a while to work alone because he knows he needs to do something," said Queiroz. "Game by game, it will start to come right for him. The confidence will build up and I am sure he will be better against Newcastle [at Old Trafford tomorrow]."

Heinze:

"Rooney is not playing well and he knows it.

"The World Cup didn't do him any favours. He hasn't been the same since the Portugal game and all the controversy that went with it.

"We just all hope he gets back to his best because we need him if we are going to win the league.

"Every player has dips in form, but it is just sporting problems - I don't believe it's anything personal.

"He is young and a great professional - he will be back to the player he was in no time. The key to staying at the top is not to lose points at home. We will have to get at Newcastle from the first minute and make sure we take all three points."
