Rooney in row with Souness after controversial tacke

Chances are though he will have been taken aback this morning by a trend more characteristic of the current sheltered, social media savvy crop of professional footballers.

Souness, or ?Sourness? as Wayne Rooney so cleverly referred to him (good one, Wayne), on the Twittersphere yesterday evening has taken the brunt of the Manchester United striker?s frustrations after his side surrendered a 2-1 lead to Cardiff City.

Sourness the rules are u kick out u should be off. Souness medel gives left hook he's done his job. Haha brilliant @WayneRooney

Souness had made the comments while working as a pundit for Sky Sports earlier on Sunday. Rooney saved some of his irritation for Sky?s lead commentator, the man with one of the most recognisable voices in English Football, Martin Tyler.

Just watched game back. I agree mine was bad tackle and ref dealt with it. And Martin Tyler didn't shut up about it all game. @WayneRooney

Take that, Martin. Followed by:

Then someone slaps someone in face and he doesn't speak a word about it. I like Martin but that's poor from him @WayneRooney

It seems after releasing some of his anger at everyone?s favourite mouthpiece, Wayne felt the need to retract some of his keyboard venom. It?s not yet clear if Martin is talking to Wayne or if he?s still sulking in the corner of the classroom debating whether or not to tell the teacher.

Not quite what Souness and his mates of a bygone era are used to. It remains to be seen how he is going to retaliate.

One thing is for sure. This continuing silence is the modern day equivalent of backing out of a fight you?ve been forced into after school. And that?s just sour grapes.
