"I'm delighted to get some minutes on the pitch and hopefully work my way back into the team," Rooney said after the match.
"We played some brilliant football, especially in the first-half when I thought we were outstanding and we fully deserved the three points.
"I thought Scholesy was outstanding.
"Some of his passing you don't see that often from players around the world and it was joy to watch.
"That was the one thing I could take from sitting on the bench.
"We know the position we are in and it is nice to be top rather than chasing."
