Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to call on Wayne Rooney as Manchester United look to restore their battered reputation in Wednesday's Carling Cup semi-final at Chelsea.
While Louis Saha, John O'Shea and Quinton Fortune might be available after recent injury, Ferguson knows he cannot afford to risk another humiliation by exposing the bulk of Saturday's line-up to the might of Jose Mourinho's first choice side, leaving the United manager to contemplate the immediate return of Rooney from his three-match ban.
ROONEY COMEBACK
Ferguson confirmed:
'It is possible Wayne will play on Wednesday. He has missed the last three games but he has been doing well in training, so it is a consideration.'
