Real Madrid's sports director Predrag Mijatovic said the club had not given up hope of luring Cristiano Ronaldo to the Primera Liga.
The Portuguese winger extended his contract with Manchester United until 2012 last week, in a move that appeared to spoil Real's plans.
"We knew this could happen. He is a quality player at a big club that is playing very well," Mijatovic told Radio Marca.
"We'll see what happens in the summer. I see it as a very difficult proposition, but you can never rule out anything. In football something happens one day and it changes the next."
