Roma have confirmed the signing of Nemanja Matic on a free transfer following the expiration of his Manchester United contract.
Matic spent five years at Old Trafford where he made 128 Premier League appearances but failed to win a trophy, despite helping the club reach the 2018 FA Cup final and 2021 Europa League final.
The Serbian announced he would be departing United when his contract expired last month and despite interest from elsewhere, Roma have managed to secure his signature.
"I am pleased and honoured to be joining this club and I cannot wait to start the new season with my teammates," Matic told the club's website.
"Roma is a big club, with amazing fans and a coach, Jose Mourinho, who is well known to everyone – making the decision to come here very straightforward.
"I hope that by working together we are able to achieve some great things.”
Matic is back under Mourinho's wing for the third time in his career, having previously worked with the Roma boss at Chelsea and United. He will wear the number 21 shirt for the Giallorossi.
"Nemanja brings with him to Roma not just a lot of quality on the pitch, but the vast experience he has gained from so many seasons in the Premier League and a focus and mentality that has consistently set him apart throughout his career," added Tiago Pinto, Roma's General Manager.
"The enthusiasm he showed at the prospect of joining our project was hugely encouraging and I am sure that will serve as a starting point for a very productive journey for all of us."
