Maybe it?s just a plot by ex-Liverpool player and now BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson to stir things up even more at Old Trafford, but suggestions made by him that Robin Van Persie handed in a transfer request last Tuesday evening are sure to add to the growing pressure David Moyes is under.
Speaking on the Irish Today FM Show with Matt Cooper, Lawrenson claimed that sources he knew who focused on Manchester United stories, told him that the Dutch striker was growing increasingly unhappy with Moyes and earlier this week, he vented his anger even further by requesting a move away from Old Trafford.
It is that time of year when rumors float around about certain players going here and there but if this story is to materialize, the future of Moyes and Manchester United will become even bleaker.
The 30-year-old striker has notched up seven Premier League goals so far this season, however, recent injuries have kept him out of United?s side since November 24.
Van Persie will once again miss Manchester United?s must-win home game to Newcastle on Saturday afternoon. Anything but a convincing win over the Toon Army will pile even more pressure onto Moyes and may just lead to Van Persie?s supposed transfer request becoming more apparent. Only time will tell, but expect a big response today by Man United to Wednesday?s loss over Everton.
One thing is for sure, Alex Ferguson will be watching from high above (in the stands) again?.
