REDS READY FOR CHELSEA

Van der Sar told the MEN:

“We made a great start to the group with three wins but we have lost two games in a row and that is hard to take.

“After the game we were disappointed, but we have to go on because we have an important game on Sunday.

“So everyone gathered around talked a little bit about the things that happened, and we move on.

“As a goalkeeper it is always nice to save a penalty, so you always know it is a possibility that one of your team's penalties will get saved.

“It didn't help that the penalty came in the 89th minute. If it had been in the 70th minute, there still would have been 20 minutes in which to equalise, so that meant there was much more pressure on Louis for the penalty.

“But games don't come much bigger than Chelsea in the Premiership these days, and this time we are in a better situation than last season, when we were 10 points behind them.

“This time we are three points up on them which can only be good for us, and hopefully we can extend that or at least maintain it.

“We will focus on Chelsea and everyone will be ready for it, and forget about the game on Tuesday.

“In the last two years Chelsea have won most of their first 10 games of the season and straight away we had a gap to make up. From January onwards last season we had a good run of 10 or 11 games unbeaten, but when you are 13 points behind it is difficult to catch them.”
