Fergie:
'Three points from Anfield is always welcome. Arsenal and Chelsea have been here, too, but maybe our performance was the best of all. The main thing was that we kept our composure and passed well. We took a lot of the steam out of Liverpool.
'We deserved to win today and can take great confidence from the performance.
'A few lads were coming back into the side today and I felt Louis Saha and John O'Shea did a great job for us when called upon. We have kept seven clean sheets in a row now and since Rio Ferdinand came back, that composure is there again. The backline is looking very strong now.'
Reacting to questions about Rooney’s celebration he said:
"That's where he scored the goal. I didn't think he was overdoing it."
Benitez:
"Mistakes are expensive in massive games. It was a problem for us because we were playing better when we conceded. Then we lost our concentration and never controlled midfield.
"Perhaps it was a mistake by Dudek but when keepers make mistakes they are always more important than outfield players' errors.
"I said to him that he played well and that was his only error, sadly it was costly.
"I feel this was a bad result for us, if only because we were playing well when we conceded the goal.
"From that point on we lost concentration and started trying difficult things instead of the simple stuff.
"Manchester United have a lot of experience and if you have to resort to playing long balls then it's always going to be hard.
"When you play important games against the big teams then every mistake is a big one.
Dudek:
"I had a good view of it. I don’t know what happened."
