Fergie:
"We had five great chances but didn't make the keeper work with any of them.
"If you don't hit the target with that many opportunities, you only have yourself to blame if you don't win.
"I am concerned that we have now lost eight games this season, especially as so many of them have finished 1-0 but we will correct the situation, don't worry about that.
"That’s a good result for Gerard. He would be the first to admit that their season has not come up to expectations. But having said that, I still find it extraordinary that some of the criticism should be so hostile. Relegation battlers get better support."
Houllier, clearly now losing the plot:
'It was a great performance and a great result against a great team.' (Ed. wrong on two counts)
"When Danny is on the pitch, he takes the penalties.
"But I wasn't concerned because Michael or Steven would have scored if they had taken it.
"Danny took it well. He epitomised the way we played. We had a plan, we stuck to it and we didn't panic. There will be a few twists and turns yet.
"But we have at least kept ourselves in contention. Any win over Manchester United is a good one but I think we caught them on a bad day. It happens sometimes."
